The landscapes and sites in Castilla-La Mancha are a real surprise for those visiting the region for the first time:320,000 hectares of nature sites make Castilla La Mancha one of the territories in Europe with a greater number of Natural Reserves, National Parks and Strict Nature Reserves.
Thanks to its strategic location in the centre of the Spanish Peninsula and its considerable surface, it combines different ecosystems (forests, grazing lands, canyons, marshes, gorges…) and a wide variety of landscapes surrounded in two National Parks: the "Cabañeros" National Park (Ciudad Real and Toledo) and the "Tablas de Daimiel" National Park (Ciudad Real), five Nature Reserves: "Alto Tajo" Nature Reserve (Guadalajara and Cuenca), "Hayedo de Tejera Negra" Nature Reserve (Guadalajara), "Calares del Río Mundo" Nature Reserve (Albacete), "Barranco del Río Dulce" Nature Reserve (Guadalajara) and "Las Lagunas de Ruidera" Nature Reserve (Ciudad Real and Albacete). But we will pay attention to those placed in the province of Ciudad Real. Come and enjoy the landscapes and nature sites in La Mancha!.
Tablas de Daimiel National Park is in the centre of La Mancha in the province of Ciudad Real and it´s the last remaining site of an ecosystem called fluvial tables: this wetland landscape was formed thanks to rivers that burst their banks in it: these rivers are Cigüela and Guadiana. Nowadays this is an endangered wetlands area. Lagunas de Ruidera are placed in the provinces of Ciudad Real and Albacete on the high course of the river Guadiana; there are 15 lagoons with waterfalls connecting one to another over 25 kilometres. Cabañeros is located in the Montes de Toledo, between Ciudad Real and Toledo and this is the home of a variety of animals (200 different bird species and mammals such as deers or roars) and a rich flora. There are guides and leaflets available to discover the different routes of these nature sites.
